GREAT RUSTIC HORSE CAMP. IF YOU ARE IN AN RV, THERE IS NO DUMP STATION, AND NOT A WAY TO FILL YOUR RV WITH POTABLE WATER. THERE IS HOWEVER 8 CAMPSITES THAT CAN FIT SMALL RV'S AND ONE CAMPSITE THAT CAN FIT 30' RV, THE REST WOULD BE A BIT SHORTER OR RV WOULD OVER HANG ONTO GRASS. NO SITE IS PERFECTLY LEVEL BUT THESE ARE FAR FROM BAD CAMPSITES. THIS AREA IS SO QUIET, AND THE STARS ARE BRIGHT! NO CELL SERVICE IN CAMPGROUND BUT IF YOU TAKE THE ROAD TO THE LOOKOUT YOU WILL GET MULTIPLE BARS. GREAT CAMPGROUND, WORTH THE DIRT ROADS! $6 PER NIGHT.
The campground itself is primitive like most forest service or grassland campgrounds but it's location is also great like most. It's near some rare ND pine forest and of course the scenic little Missouri. Through and past the campground is a trailhead parking spot with a great view. The weather wasn't very agreeable while I was there but I'll be back.
The campground should be renamed Burnt Coal Vein Campground. Only after our visit did we learn that the fire in the nearby lignite vein went out years ago. Based on information easily available to us we found the campground and the nearby features shown in pictures. It s!ill was a nice ride on very good gravel roads.
